The Library

A fairly random title for some fairly random pictures from a fairly uneventful weekend spent with Darryl. We hung out at his place, watched TV, played Wii, and went out a couple times for various walks, dinners, and one trip to a movie theatre which turned into not seeing a movie because nothing good was playing. But here are some pics.

Darryl's cat Andréa. How very French of her to choose such a name.

Darryl petting one of the cats that live on Parliament Hill. I don't know how this fat cat would be able to get in the little doors off the cat houses. We saw two cats and two squirrels, and some bitch who decided to bring her big dog to see the cats.

A lovely view of the Library of Parliament. I think this is the first picture I've taken of it since it was newly unveiled 3 years ago, in all its restorative glory.

Here is Darryl riding the O-Train.

And here's me, joining him. Choo choo! [No, it doesn't actually choo. It dings.]

You pet stray cats? Is this a Canadian thing?

i personally don't pet the cats. and technically, the cats are wild, but they do have houses and are fed and all that. and people visit them. and then darryl went and washed his hands.

scratches head, cats with homes ≠ wild??

anyhow i doubt that would fly down here, cat scratch fever is considered dangerous to children or something now. we just round them up and gas em. it's ethical or something..

...we gas the cats, not the children,

Parliament Hill [see: where government happens] randomly became home [in the back corner] so a bunch of stray cats. some random guy has taken it upon himself [for many years now] to build a couple little houses for the cats, and to feed and water them. they're an institution now.

we did the same thing with homeless shelters in DC. Now there is an entire city!!

hmm that came off a tad racist..

how is it racist? homeless people arent a race. unless im missing a vital aspect of this american history lesson LOL

I LOVE that somebody takes care of the stray kitties! That would totally be me if I lived there.

That library is amazingly gorgeous.

okay history lesson than, DC was originally constructed with slave labor, and freed blacks, and has always maintained a large black population. Since the late 50's DC has been known for its epic black slums/ghettos. Both of these are public housing, since I compared homeless shelters to DC proper it could be construed (by an USA'n as being a subtle dig at the large black population OF DC.

You and Darryl are such cutie pies.

It is not wise to pet stray cats - too unpredictable - they will bite your fingers clean off, but I'm glad that someone takes care of them. I love kitties.
