The Bus Drivers

Just so we're all clear, the people behind this mess think they deserve everything handed to them on a silver platter. Would you support the people that caused this? Do you think they deserve all the things they want? I didn't think so.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things are to the point where Andrew has actually moved to his mom's, and will live there throughout the strike in order to get to work. He'll be back on weekends, but now I live alone thanks to bus drivers. I will see him this weekend, then maybe for a few hours next Saturday, then it will be two weeks until I see him again since I'll be gone for Christmas. It's insane!

OH. MY. GOD.

That is outrageous! I was watching this unfold on the news yesterday with lots of interviews with super angry citizens who have been royally screwed by this strike. I'm sorry to hear it's affecting your relationship as well...

I cannot BELIEVE they turned down a 7% pay hike during a recession! It's disgusting. What a bunch of asshats.

HAHA no, Andrew and I broke up 2.5 months ago. We're just doing the roommate/friends thing now [fairly successfully!] but I'm trapped out here in the east end, so it would be nice to have someone else trapped here too. But he's trapped at his mother's, so that's no prize either HAHA

disregard that last comment. Andrew just emailed and said he's coming home tonight even though it will probably require like a 3 hour walk. wtf!

Whoa - three hours??!!! With a commute like that, it's most definitely a successful friends/roommate situation!

And sorry there, I haven't been following your blog long enough to make assumptions like that, but glad to hear it's still workin' out for you both. Hope he makes it!

I just Google Earthed it ... his walk from work to home will be 10km. And my walk to school for my exams will be 6km. Grr.

You guys need to import a little something from us called "John Rambo." There's no war that man can't win.

The last thing I want to do is start another debate (;)), but that particular mess you can blame on snow and the buses, it's not really the drivers. For some reason, the articulated buses Ottawa owns are really back-heavy and all rear-wheel drive (and can't be fitted with snow tires to boot), so when they try to turn in snow\ice, they jackknife because the front wheels can't grip while the back wheels keep pushing forwards. It's stupid and idiotic, but it's got nothing to do with driver error, more bad design (and a seriously bad purchasing decision).
