The Outing

13 months after I started coming out, I finally ended that saga tonight, by telling my dad. Everyone else was a piece of cake, but I was always too nervous about him. I told him, and he took it decently. Some hesitation, but he still loves me and all that good stuff. He just wants me to be happy and safe.

I'll tell him about my roommate/boyfriend of 14 months at a later date. Baby steps. LOL

I've always wondered how people did that. Is it like an intervention? Did you butter him up with an offering of Timbits beforehand?

Do people go into denial and say, "But wait, I just saw you with a girl the other day!" I've always wondered how an outing might go down.

Anyways, congrats on getting it out there dude, it must have been a big weight on your mind.

(Is this something I should send you a card for? Not sure what the rules are.)

actually, while cards are frowned upon, gifts of 10K+ are required.

and the way it goes down is, you're on the phone with your dad about various other things, and then since you've decided to tell him by the end of the summer, and your summer ends the next day, you are about to finish the conversation but you you say "wait, i have to tell you something. i don't know if you'll like it or not, but i'm gay."

that is the slowed down version. its actually one word. gotta be fast like an bandaid. try it sometime ;) haha

I'm sure that was tough for you. Of course your Dad still loves you. You're his son. I think parents know a lot more than we give them credit for.
